Computing
Within Halfnote, we have several decades of experience from the IT industry. Our specialities include technology strategies, project management, system architecture and mobile technologies.
Website Development
Currently, our primary focus within the computing area is development of professional, content-rich websites. These range from websites for companies, communities, mobile, e-commerce and web services.
Drupal
The main weapon in our arsenal is Drupal, which is a very powerful open-source Content Management System (CMS). In our eyes, Drupal is probably the best invention since the wheel! We use Drupal for a range of different websites and web services. As a matter of fact, this very website is developed using Drupal.
Drupal is gaining more and more popularity in the computing world. Besides being free, Drupal is very well geared up for most of the modern Internet challenges. Some examples of well-known Drupal reference sites are given in this list.
On the Halfnote website, we have tried to piece together some Drupal-related information that could be of use for those who use Drupal as their tool as well as those that consider using it.
There are a lot of advantages with Drupal, but also a few drawbacks. From our experience, the learning curve is relatively steep and something you need to climb over in order to build anything serious. It is possible to do quite a lot by just using the user interface of Drupal. However, to create your own look and feel requires some knowledge of PHP and CSS; as Drupal comes bundled with jQuery (an extremely useful library for Javascript), some knowledge in that is also good to have. Although the quality of the core Drupal system is great, one disadvantage is that this is not always the case with the contributed modules. Before deploying a new module, theme or an update into a live environment, make sure that it has been properly tested in another environment.
